Strengthening the private sector’s role in funding initiatives related to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, Strong institutions
Plan for Peace is developing an innovative model for peacebuilding that stems from the current context within the financial sector. The concept and practice of impact investing is growing and a number of fund managers seem ready to explore the criteria on which investment decisions are made. However, the majority of the investment industry does not yet realise the opportunities inherent in SDG 16. We currently engage with private philanthropic donors to ensure more money is dedicated to SDG 16 related initiatives.
Drawing on our work with partner organisations operating in areas of armed conflict, we have identified more than 15 practical examples of situations worldwide where investors can make a real impact on transforming violent conflict.
“Working carefully with development, humanitarian and peace actors to better understand situations on the ground, would enable industry to explore opportunities that also have the potential to contribute to stable and prosperous societies.”
