What Hope Is There in Times of Crisis?

Thursday, November 23rd 2023 | 4pm GMT / 5pm CET / 6pm IST 6pm EET / 11am EST

Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan come from two sides of a bitter divide. In 1997, Rami’s young daughter, Smadar, was killed by two Palestinian suicide bombers. In 2007, Bassam’s 10-year-old daughter, Abir, was killed by Israeli border police in front of her school.

Through this shared grief, the pair forged an unlikely friendship. They have devoted their lives to building peace between Palestinians and Israelis and are active in Parents Circle – an organisation for bereaved Israelis and Palestinians.

Plan for Peace is honoured to this unique online conversation to explore how each of us can respond at this time of conflict and tragedy.
